Cary Family Dental: April Newsletter and Dr. Acton’s broken Arm

By April 12, 2024April 18th, 2024No Comments

Hello everyone!

As we welcome spring, I’m reaching out with a personal health update. A week and a half ago I was riding a bike that was unfamiliar to me and when I turned too quickly the tires flipped out from under me. I landed on my left side and broke my elbow at the head of the radius. The doctor recommended no cast but that the healing may take up to 6 weeks. You will see me in the office but I will not be doing much dentistry for a few weeks.

On a brighter note, we’re thrilled to announce that Cary Family Dental was a finalist in this year’s Maggy Awards by Cary Magazine, a big thank you to all of our patients who have voted for us this year and in years past. It’s an honor to be part of such a great community.

Also, we’re proud to continue our support for the Smiles for Life Foundation charity event. Over the years our patients and our practice have helped to raise over $150,000 for children’s charities locally and around the country. This year we have chosen the  Lucy Daniels Center in Cary as our local charity.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

Allan Acton, DDS

This Week’s before and after

There are 3 things you can change about your teeth to make them look better. You can change the color, the shape or the position. In this case we changed all three using a technique called no prep veneers. Porcelain veneers were added to these teeth without any reduction of the tooth surface. Our patient was very pleased and gained confidence with their new smile. This procedure took 2 appointments that were only three weeks apart.

 🗞 Office News

Ten+ years of service!

We have an incredible team at Cary Family Dental, and I’m particularly proud to highlight five team members who have been with us for over a decade (Beth for 20+). Their dedication to dentistry and exceptional customer service is truly commendable, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work alongside them every day.

Magnificent Maggy Moments

Since 2006, the Maggy Awards have been highlighting the finest offerings in Western Wake, with increasing excitement each year. Over 12,500 Cary Magazine readers participate by voting across categories like restaurants, lifestyle, services, and shopping, culminating in a thrilling reveal that truly warrants celebration.

That being said, we’re thrilled to announce that Cary Family Dental made it as a finalist in this year’s Maggy Awards, specifically in the services category. We extend our sincere thanks to all who consistently place their trust in us.

Glenaire 5K

Cary Family Dental was a proud sponsor of the Glenaire 5K this year. I did not run in the race (partly due to my broken arm) but I did attend and it was very well run and the weather was perfect. Congratulations to them on their success.

Dr. Madden’s Moroccan Adventure

On another note, Dr. Madden and her fiancé Esteban embarked on an adventurous journey through the captivating landscapes of Morocco. Their unforgettable experience included a camel ride across the golden dunes, immersing themselves in the rich culture and timeless beauty of the Moroccan wilderness.

❓ Understanding Cracked Teeth

Cracked teeth can be a common dental concern caused by various factors. Impact, clenching, or grinding can lead to small fractures that deepen over time. You may be at risk if you have large/deep fillings, are active in high-impact sports, or grind or clench your teeth.

TRIVIA SPLASH: Did you know that toothpaste was originally sold in jars rather than tubes? The first toothpaste sold in a tube was introduced by Colgate in 1896. Before tubes became the norm, people would scoop toothpaste out of jars with their fingers or a toothbrush.
