Cary Family Dental Provides Dental Health Presentations to Local Schools
Preschool and elementary school students taught the importance of early tooth care and health
CARY, NC – May 29, 2008 – In conjunction with Children’s Dental Health Month, Cary Family Dental recently presented dental health presentations to students at two local preschools and one elementary school. Cary Family Dental hygienists, Crystal Koran and Melissa Dunn, used puppets and an interactive presentation to teach proper dental care to children at Cary’s Goddard Preschool and Genesis Preschool and Salem Elementary in Apex. This is the second year the dental practice has provided these presentations.
Cary Family Dental offers this speaking opportunity to the practice’s patients who are teachers and to anyone else who might be interested in offering this presentation to his or her class. The presentations occur in February to coincide with Children’s Dental Health Month, an annual event sponsored by the American Dental Association to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. Koran says that early education about the importance of proper tooth maintenance is important to ensuring lifelong optimal dental health.
“Being able to talk with these children is so fun and rewarding,” says Koran. “Children at preschool and early elementary school age are naturally curious and eager to learn about new things. It’s the best time to teach them about their teeth and reinforce the importance of taking good care of their mouth now. I hope more teachers take advantage of this presentation so that we can ensure all of our children have beautiful and healthy smiles for many, many years.”
Salem Elementary kindergarten teacher, Darlene Germano, said that her class loved the presentation, and her students were eager to go home and use the tooth care packets that Cary Family Dental distributed.
“Crystal [Koran] did a great job of explaining why we need to take care of our teeth and how to do that,” says Germano. “With her cute puppet with the ‘big chompers’, she showed the children exactly how to do everything. Not only do the children love the puppet, but it is a very appropriate and effective way to show five-year olds the process.”
