Cary Family Dental Offering Free School Presentations to Promote National Children’s Dental Health Month
Dental practice now accepting solicitations from area preschools and elementary schools
CARY, NC – January 5, 2009 – Cary Family Dental, a provider of state-of-the-art dental services, is now accepting solicitations from area schools for their popular dental health presentations. This will be the dental practice’s third year of providing these presentations aimed to educate children on the importance of proper oral care. Last year, Cary Family Dental hygienists Crystal Koran and Melissa Dunn presented to children at Cary’s Goddard Preschool, as well as Genesis Preschool and Salem Elementary in Apex.
“We typically offer these programs to [Cary Family Dental] patients who happen to be teachers,” says Cary Family Dental’s Dr. Allan Acton. “This is the first time that we’re actively promoting this opportunity to everyone in the Cary area. We hope that educators take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to teach their students how to take care of their teeth and ensure overall oral health.”
Cary Family Dental’s dental health presentations are given in February to coincide with National Children’s Dental Health Month, an annual event sponsored by the American Dental Association to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. Presentation co-presenter, Crystal Koran, says that early education about the importance of proper tooth maintenance is important to ensuring lifelong optimal dental health.
“Being able to talk with these children is so fun and rewarding,” says Koran. “Children at preschool and early elementary school age are naturally curious and eager to learn about new things. It’s the best time to teach them about their teeth and reinforce the importance of taking good care of their mouth now.”
Salem Elementary kindergarten teacher, Darlene Germano, said that her class loved the presentation, and her students were eager to go home and use the tooth care packets that Cary Family Dental distributed.
“Crystal [Koran] did a great job of explaining why we need to take care of our teeth and how to do that,” says Germano. “With her cute puppet with the ‘big chompers’, she showed the children exactly how to do everything. Not only do the children love the puppet, but it is a very appropriate and effective way to show five-year olds the process.”
