Cary Family Dental Embarks on Four-Month Fundraising Campaign for Smiles for Hope Foundation

Award-winning dental practice hopes to raise $10,000 to help supply and operate dental clinic in the Dominican Republic

CARY, NC – March 25, 2011 – For the sixth consecutive year, Dr. Allan Acton and Cary Family Dental will be offering teeth whitening services at a significantly reduced price to help benefit those less fortunate. From March 1 to June 30, the Cary dental practice will be raising money for Smiles for Hope Foundation (, an organization affiliated with Smiles for Life that provides ongoing dental outreach expeditions for dentists, their teams, and their families.

“The teeth whitening procedure is quick and painless, with excellent results,” explains Dr. Acton, a Crown Council dentist. “Most importantly, a few minutes in the chair can make an incredible impact on someone in great need.”

Smiles for Hope Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit Foundation committed to the idea that everyone should all have the chance to serve their fellow human beings if given the opportunity. Smiles for Hope Foundation provides that opportunity by offering an avenue for dental professionals to serve the “poorest of the poor” through dental services—both preventive and rehabilitative.

This year, Dr. Acton and Cary Family Dental are hoping to raise $10,000 to send practice team members to the Dominican Republic to offer dental services to those who need it most. From now until the end of June, teeth whitening services have been reduced from $250 to $199 with 100% of the proceeds going toward supplies and to assist in running the Dominican Republic clinic. The practice has raised $900 to date.

Cary Family Dental manager, Beth Hertrick, said that practice team members have wanted to get involved with mission work for some time, and Smiles for Hope Foundation presented the ideal opportunity.

“We’ve wanted to do this for years, but never had the opportunity until now,” says Hertrick. “As a team, we wanted to lend our unique talent to this important cause. Traveling to the Dominican Republic will not only allow us to change the lives of those in need, but will also provide a unique and life-changing experience for our entire team.”

The Smiles for Life Foundation ( is the children’s charity organization of the Crown Council, an organization of leading-edge dentists throughout North America. Each year, over a four-month period, Crown Council dentists participating in the Smiles for Life campaign offer professional teeth whitening services at a considerably reduced price and donate 100% of the proceeds to children’s charities. Last year, Cary Family Dental had the distinction of being ranked in the Top Five Percent of national Smiles for Life fundraising participants, having raised over $65,000 over the past five years.
