Dr. Allan Acton Completes Four-Day, Four-State Motorcycle Ride to Benefit Children in Need
Award-winning dentist travels over 800 miles as part of dental education adventure tour
CARY, NC – July 29, 2009 – Dr. Allan Acton of Cary Family Dental recently rode through Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana as part of the Learning Curves Dental Adventure Tours. The tours combine dental continuing education with Harley-Davidson motorcycle touring to provide participants with breathtaking scenery by day and the best clinical and interpersonal continuing education by night.
Once a year, Learning Curves sponsors Miles for Life, where all proceeds are donated to Smiles for Life. Dr. Acton contributed $5,000 in order to participate in the event. He and Cary Family Dental are longtime supporters of the Crown Council’s Smiles for Life campaign and, together with Dr. Acton’s Miles For Life contribution, have raised over $60,000 to help children facing serious health and educational problems in communities throughout North America.
The Smiles for Life Foundation is the children’s charity organization of the Crown Council, an organization of leading-edge dentists throughout North America. The Crown Council’s Smiles for Life Foundation has raised more than $22 million since 1998, benefiting nearly 500 children’s charities across North America. Dr. Acton said that the experience not only gave him the perfect excuse to learn how to ride a motorcycle, but it also allowed him to help a worthwhile cause.
“This was truly an amazing and rewarding experience,” says Dr. Acton. “To be able to meet other dentists, to learn from today’s leading-edge dental professionals, and to experience the beauty and freedom of the great outdoors—all while doing something positive for our community was truly overwhelming. Although this experience lasted only four days, the memories and friendships I made will stay with me for a lifetime.”
