Cary Family Dental Provides Close to $1,000 to Teachers Through Supply Reimbursement Program

Cary dental practice’s three-month program provides financial support to Wake County teachers

CARY, NC, December 24, 2009– From September through November, Cary Family Dental sponsored their second School Supply Reimbursement Program, which reimbursed qualifying teachers up to $50 for money spent on classroom supplies. Over the three-month program, Cary Family Dental reimbursed a total of $930.45 to teachers in Wake County.

Sheri Gross, an educator at Farmington Woods IB/PYP Elementary in Cary, received a reimbursement through Cary Family Dental’s program and is grateful for the support. “With the poor economy, teachers have less funds to work with,” says Gross. “The Cary Family Dental School Supply Reimbursement is a great way to balance hard times.”

Dr. Allan Acton of Cary Family Dental said the supply reimbursement program was in response to the continuing hardship educators face with having to do more with less. “I think we often take for granted the financial burden placed upon our teachers,” says Dr. Acton. “In order to provide our children with the highest quality education, teachers often take money out of their own pockets in order to buy materials and supplies for their classrooms. This reimbursement program is our way of recognizing their efforts and thanking them for all they do.”

Margaret Feldman’s class at Salem Middle School in Apex is working on a project whose cost will be partially offset by the school reimbursement program. “The kids are getting notes from the troops, and we are creating a global community,” explains Feldman. “The cost to do this is worth it, but the public does not realize how much money of their own teachers spend to enrich learning.”

Holly Springs Middle School teacher, Carmen Nurinda, says that the School Supply Reimbursement Program of Cary Family Dental is “awesome” and she hopes other businesses adopt a similar program to assist educators. “As teachers, we are having a hard time with large classes, budget cuts, etc.,” says Nurinda. “I wish more offices and businesses start supporting the schools in Wake County as Cary Family Dental does.”

This year, Cary Family Dental was only able to offer reimbursements to teachers who are new or current patients of the practice. Dr. Acton says that he would be interested in partnering with other medical practices and businesses in order to expand this program to as many teachers as financially possible.

“It’s time that we all come together to give back to those who give so much of themselves on a daily basis,” says Dr. Acton. “The more money we’re able to raise through community and business partnerships means more assistance to our educators, which ultimately benefits our children.”
