Dr. Allan Acton and Cary Family Dental Featured in Cary Magazine’s Current Women’s Issue

Cary publication features local dentist and reveals results of 2nd annual Cary Smile Makeover

CARY, NC – September 15, 2010 – The September/October issue of Cary Magazine—titled The Women’s Issue—features Dr. Allan Acton of Cary Family Dental and Grace Love, this year’s recipient of the 2nd Annual Cary Smile Makeover. The makeover is a partnership between Cary Family Dental and Cary Magazine that is open to women of Western Wake County looking to have a better, more beautiful smile. Dr. Acton performed the dental work and Swagger Gifts, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Tanas Hair Design completed the makeover by providing clothing, accessories, hair, and makeup for the photo shoot.

In the Cary Magazine article entitled “A Winning Smile”, writer Jennifer Baron says that Love, a single mother of two, often found herself putting other people’s needs first. Combined with having battled (and beat) cancer, as well as suffering from debilitating migraines for 20 years, Love described her life as miserable. “Nothing else mattered,” she says.

As a new empty nester, Love has dedicated her efforts to improving her health and well-being. She is now managing her migraines, losing weight, and has gotten a smile that she can now be proud of. “This is really the right time for me because now I’m ready to take care of my teeth the way I always should have,” adds Love. “It won’t be a wasted effort on [Dr. Acton’s] part.”

Love’s dental history made her averse to having any dental work performed, so Dr. Acton’s first step was to allay her fears and perceptions about dentists. He took the process slowly and made sure to answer all of Love’s questions about the process and procedures involved. After assessing Love’s situation, Dr. Acton decided on a plan that would replace all 12 of Love’s top teeth by using four sets of bridges. He also used a laser to cauterize away the gum tissue to minimize her “gummy smile”.

“I thought [Grace’s] teeth looked really dark, and they weren’t the right size or shape,” says Dr. Acton. “But she had a beautiful smile and I knew if we could redo her teeth, her smile would shine through.”

Dr. Acton describes himself as “pretty picky”, but says the overall results of Love’s smile certainly exceeded his expectations. Love herself is thrilled with her new smile. “I feel like a new woman,” she says. “I feel like it takes 10 years off of me!” To read the entire Cary Magazine article featuring Dr. Acton and Cary Family Dental, visit http://tinyurl.com/24rvtnq.
